CREATING FUTURE EXCELLENCE
EAST DURHAM COLLEGE
THE STORY
East Durham College is an incredible college that puts the quality of their students’ education and experience at the heart of everything they do. Spread across three campuses the college offers everything from A Levels and T Levels through to modern apprenticeship pathways and foundation degrees. East Durham College also have some of the most advanced facilities and best teaching across their faculties in the region…so telling the world about them is pretty important.
THE BRIEF
It was a simple yet expansive brief for East Durham College and stretches back to 2019. We’ve worked with them to deliver videos to promote every course that the college offers across their Peterlee and Durham campuses. From sport to sixth form and from veterinary nursing to bricklaying, every course that’s offered needed to have an accompanying video to bring it to life in an authentic manner. Not only that, there were montage videos, social media elements and short form pieces of content that had to be created to go alongside these main course videos.
THE SOLUTION
East Durham College wanted all their course videos to feel unique and reflect the experience of their students. We felt it was important to ensure that all the teaching areas were covered and that the pace of the videos made them effective and engaging for any possible viewers - most of whom would be around 16 years old. In terms of narrative, we opted to put student voices front and centre with all of the videos so that they could share their lived experiences on the course first hand. Additionally, we spoke with the members of staff who teach the courses to provide an insight into what they involve. The result is a series of videos that reflect the diverse points of view, experience, and understanding of each course…so a lot of interviews and a lot of shoots to bring the different faculties to life. However, the big point of these videos is that we felt they had to communicate how the college encourages students to aspire for a better future and how the courses help them get there. So, we came up with the concept of having different student voices tell us what job they want to do when they' finish their course to lead and finish the videos. The presence of these personal ideas at the beginning and end of the videos allow for the content to then explore and explain how students can hope to achieve their goals in their chosen field as a result of choosing East Durham College to take their next step.
A BIT EXTRA
Alongside the course videos we have delivered for East Durham College, as a result of a recent complete refurbishment of their on-site restaurant ‘The Grove’ we were asked to create a film that advertises it to people outside of the college and illustrates the experience and food options on offer as well as showing the quality of how every dish is created.
BRIDGING THE GAP
East Durham College wanted to show the incredible facilities and teaching on offer for those who join them after GCSEs at the Peterlee campus with this video that captures life at ED6. For many, staying in school isn’t the best option after the age of 16 but ED6 offers A Levels and T Levels as well as pathways to other courses for students from all over the local area in a different environment to conventional school and their results speak for themselves.
